Свое участие в войне Юлия Друнина - девочка из интеллигентной московской семьи, ушедшая на фронт в 17 лет,- считала не заслугой, а удачей: "Когда б сложилась жизнь моя иначе,- как в день Победы стыдно было б мне!.." До конца своих дней старшина медицинской службы, сама не избежавшая двух ранений, Друнина ощущала себя "связной между теми, кто жив и кто отнят войной". Поэтому даже в ее многочисленных стихах о любви так часто возникает тема войны... "В школьные годы я была, так сказать жрицей чистого искусства. Писала только о любви, преимущественно неземной, о природе, конечно экзотической, хотя не выезжала никуда дальше дачного Подмосковья. Замки, рыцари, прекрасные дамы вперемешку с ковбоями, лампасами, пампасами и кабацкими забулдыгами - коктейль из Блока, Майна Рида и Есенина. Всё это мирно сосуществовало в этих ужасных виршах. Мы пришли на фронт прямо из детства. Из стихов моих сразу как ветром выдуло и цыганок, и ковбоев, и пампасы с лампасами, и прекрасных дам" (Юлия Друнина). Составитель: В. Андреев.
