Книга эта - не учебник литургического богословия и не ученое исследование. Я писал ее в редкое свободное время, часто прерывая ее, и теперь, соединяя все эти главы воедино, я не претендую ни на полноту, ни на систематичность. Книга эта - ряд размышлений об Евхаристии. Размышления эти, однако, не от "научной проблематики", а от - пускай и малого, и ограниченного - опыта. Свыше тридцати лет я служил Церкви - как священник, как преподаватель богословия, как пастырь и учитель. И вот, никогда в эти тридцать лет не оставляло меня некое основное вопрошание об Евхаристии, о месте ее в Церкви, вопрошание, возникшее буквально в юности и радостью наполнившее мою жизнь. Увы, однако, не одной радостью. Ибо чем реальнее становился опыт самой Евхаристии, Божественной Литургии, Таинства победы Христовой и Его прославления, тем сильнее становилось ощущение своеобразного евхаристического кризиса в Церкви. В предании Церкви ничего не переменилось, но переменилось восприятие Евхаристии, самой ее сущности.
