Описание:

   Главный герой повести - Эбинезер Скрудж, скупой старик, которому чужда радость, веселье. Он не любит ничего, кроме денег. Приближающееся Рождество старик готовится встречать в работе, именно поэтому он отвергает приглашение своего племянника провести это Рождество с его семьей, прогоняет мальчишек, поющих рождественские песни, отказывает сборщикам пожертвований и неохотно отпускает своего клерка, обещая при этом удержать часть его жалования. Возвратившись домой, Скрудж видит призрак своего компаньона Джейкоба Марли, умершего семь лет назад как раз в канун Рождества. Призрак Марли говорит, что он бесконечно страдает под тяжестью грехов, совершенных за всю жизнь. Страдание - это его наказание за то, что не делал добрые дела. Марли не хочет, чтобы такая же участь постигла Скруджа: Марли сообщает Скруджу, что его посетят 3 Духа, которые попробуют его спасти от наказания, уже постигшего самого Марли…
