Классикой детской литературы стали романы американского писателя Марка Твена "Приключения Тома Сойера" и "Приключения Гекльберри Финна". На вопрос Редьярда Киплинга, сможет ли читатель познакомиться со взрослым Томом, Марк Твен ответил: "Я еще не решил, как поступить. Я хотел написать продолжение "Тома Сойера" в двух вариантах. В одном он удостаивался больших почестей и попадает в конгресс, в другом я собираюсь его повесить. А друзья и враги могут выбрать конец себе по вкусу". Про взрослого Тома Сойера Марк Твен так и не написал, однако продолжение приключений Тома и его верных друзей Гекльберри Финна и Джима все-таки существует. И не одно. Марк Твен написал еще две увлекательные повести "Том Сойер за границей" и "Том Сойер - сыщик", которые издаются довольно редко. А последняя его повесть из этого цикла "Заговор Тома Сойера" так и осталась незаконченной. В нашей стране она была опубликована лишь в 2005 году издательством "Текст". В этой книге собраны ВСЕ истории самых известных в мире мальчишек с иллюстрациями из изданий, выходивших при жизни Марка Твена.
